Professional and amateur surfing starts Tuesday in the 56th annual Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships.
The event is the oldest, continuous-running surfing event in the United States and second internationally only to an event in Australia.
The ECSC is owned by the Virginia Beach Jaycees and is one of the business organization’s biggest fundraisers of the year.
Professionals competing in the World Surf League’s Qualifying Series will be vying for crucial points and a little bit of cash during the week. Amateurs compete for trophies and prizes.
Most surfing divisions will hold their finals on Sunday.
The week also will feature a variety of other beach-lifestyle sporting events like volleyball. Free entertainment starts Friday.
