Looking at this historical document you begin to realize the magnitude of the East Coast Surfing Championships.  It truly is an amazing event that has persevered through the decades.  Not only is it the oldest continual surfing event in the Western Hemisphere it is steeped with history.  A collection of rare surfing talent.  Look at the names and you will recognize many World Champions – Micky Munoz, Joyce Hoffman, Tom Curren, Joel Tudor, Colin McPhillips, CJ Hobgood, as well as a huge collection of successful professional surfers with world recognition such as Taylor Knox, Courtney Conologue, Karina Petroni, Mimi Monroe, Dino Andino, Asher Nolan, Aaron Cormican, Ben Bourgeois, Todd Holland, Matt Kechle, Charlie Kuhn and such surfing legends as Mike Tabeling, Dick Catri, Murph the Surf, Corky Carrol, Wes Laine, Hawaiian legends, Jesse Merle Jones, Dustin Barca, and current starts like Tim Curran, Bobby Martinez, Brazilian stars like Adriano de Souza, Jadson Andre’, Miguel Pupo and the list will continue to grow.  Virginia Beach should be proud of its’ surfing heritage and the role it has played and will continue to play in the sport of surfing not just in Virginia, the East Coast, the United States but in the World!
