Virginia Beach, Virginia - The 39th annual East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) and Beach Sports Festival will host the Skimboarding event on Saturday, August 25th - Sunday, August 26th, 2001. More than 60 top amateurs and professionals are anticipated to compete in this year's event for valuable prizes, trophies, and cash awards.

Skimboarding competitors use a thin wooden or fiberglass teardrop shaped board to skim across the shore break into the breaking waves. Each entrant will sprint down the beach at top speed towards the surf and leap onto their board, trying to maintain balance and perform a variety of tricks. A panel of judges will score the competitors on length of ride, balance, and creativity.

Entry Fee:
$20 amateur, $50 professional (includes ECSC Competitor t-shirt) Entries accepted up to 9 a.m. Saturday, August 25th

Men: Age groups 9 & under, 10-13, 14-17, 18-24, 25 & up
Women:

Awards:
Top 3 finishers in each amateur division will receive a skimboard, trophy, and gift certificate. Professional winners receive cash.
