East Coast Surfing Championships - Press Office - ECSC, the premier surfing contest and Pro-Am Surfing competition on the East Coast is the Southeast's best beach and entertainment festival located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The surfing competition and beach events also includes other water sports: skimboarding, volleyball, a boardwalk 5K run, Hooters swimsuit contest, street skateboard and ramp contests, and live bands and music on the beach.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The Virginia Beach Jaycees are proud to announce that the 39th annual East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) will be presented by our friends at Cox Communications.

Cox is tremendously excited about the opportunity to provide its support and become a part of the storied history of the ECSC. Beginning in 1962, the ECSC is the oldest continuously running surfing contest in the western hemisphere. The success of the event over 39 years can be directly linked to hard work of countless volunteers and the generous support of community-minded sponsors. Through presentation of ECSC 2001, Cox establishes itself as one of the great benefactors of the local and regional surfing community. The ECSC now draws over 100,000 surfing fans and beach lovers to watch, compete, celebrate, and relax. Having grown to such proportions, the event would cease to exist if not for the leaders of our community stepping forward to pledge their assistance. As one of our great community business leader, Cox has recognized the vital role they play in giving their support as they usher this institution into the new millennium.
