****FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 10, 2007 **** VOLUNTEERS WELCOMED, NEEDED TO HELP THIS YEAR’S ECSC
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Individual volunteers, clubs, or other groups are needed to help at the 45th Annual East Coast Surfing Championships (ECSC) this August 20-26, 2007 at the Virginia Beach oceanfront. All volunteers will receive a limited edition 45th Annual ECSC volunteer T-shirt, and the thanks of the Virginia Beach Jaycees, who organize the massive event. “ECSC is more than just a surfing contest; it’s the great American beach festival,” said Myron Nahra, executive director of this year’s event. “Today’s ECSC is a multi-event beach sports and entertainment festival, and its one of the biggest weekends of the summer here.” Nahra said that hundreds of volunteers are required to produce this traditional end-of-summer happening. Volunteers will serve in minimum four (4) hour shifts from Monday, Aug. 20 (site preparation, set up) each day 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 28 (post-event wrap-up). ECSC is the great American beach festival. ECSC is North America’s oldest surfing contest and the second oldest continuously-run surfing contest in the world. More than 200 professional surfers from around the world will compete for cash prizes and ASP series points. Hundreds of amateur surfers will also compete for top rankings on the amateur circuit – and for the love of surfing. The entertainment festival and all sporting events are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC and FREE of charge to spectators.
