ECSC
is planned, produced and staffed by the Virginia Beach
Jaycees.
The Jaycees is a volunteer leadership organization that
trains through community service and is open to men and
women ages 21 to 40. Proceeds from this event fund the
projects and programs of the Virginia Beach Jaycees.
The Virginia Beach Jaycees celebrated its 50th anniversary
in 1998. The local chapter is involved in the community
through such projects as the Flame of Hope, Christmas Shopping
Tour for underprivileged children, First Citizen, Outstanding
Young Citizen, and Soup Kitchen at the Judeo-Christian Outreach
Center.
What
is a Jaycee?
A Jaycee is a member of the U.S. Jaycees, a world-wide leadership
training and community service organization which was founded
in 1920, the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce changed
its name to the U.S. Jaycees in 1965. In Virginia today,
more than 7,000 Jaycees belong to one of over 130 local
chapters.
Who can join?
There are three requirements to be a Jaycee. First, you
must be between the ages of 21 to 39. Second, pay your annual
dues (dues vary from chapter to chapter, for the Virginia
Beach Jaycees it is $65). Third, to get involved in your
community by working on a project.
What programs do the Jaycees offer?
Plenty! In fact, the Jaycees can provide you with a complete
foundation and opportunity for success in almost every facet
of your life.
The
Jaycees offer personal development, providing courses to
help you develop as an individual. We can improve your public
speaking ability, and train you in managing your personal
finances, budgeting your time, and establishing concrete
goals.
The Jaycees help you identify problems within your community
or neighborhood. This community involvement leads to constructive
plans of action to provide solutions.
Our chapter offers management training on a regular basis,
including quarterly meetings with other chapters throughout
Virginia. Members learn management techniques which also
carry over into the business community, making Jaycees more
valuable to their employers.
Why are Jaycees respected?
This is a people-oriented organization, made up of individuals
with many different backgrounds. Bankers, teachers, accountants,
farmers, doctors, salespeople, construction workers, lawyers,
managers ... all types of young people join the Jaycees
to help their communities and improve themselves. In fact,
many public officials and corporate leaders are active or
former Jaycees!
How
much time will being a Jaycee take?
Participation is always voluntary in the Jaycees. Give as
much time as you wish to devote. That is what our time management
course is all about - helping you budget your time for yourself,
your family, your job, and the Jaycees!
When do they meet?
when do they meet" - The Virginia Beach Jaycees hold meetings on the Second and Fourth Tuesday of every month and have various events throughout the month.
